This summer, I visited YHA Sheringham with two of my girls, and we were completely charmed by this delightful seaside town. With its mix of beaches, shops, and family-friendly activities, it’s a perfect getaway for families looking for budget-friendly adventures.

Why YHA Sheringham is Perfect for Families

Location

YHA Sheringham is just a ten-minute walk from the town centre and beach, making it easy to explore without a car. There are plenty of local shops and eateries, and if you’re on a tighter budget, the nearby Tesco makes self-catering simple. We did a mix of fish and chips on the beach and home-cooked meals in the hostel kitchen – a perfect balance!

Things to Do Near YHA Sheringham

Sheringham Beach

The beaches in North Norfolk are huge! Plenty of space for families to enjoy summer fun.

The beach is just 10 minutes from the hostel and perfect for families. Lifeguards are on duty May to September – swim between the flags on the far right when facing the sea. Even in busy summer months, the beach feels spacious and uncrowded.

We’re huge fans of Treasure Trails, which are treasure hunts around local areas. Great for kids aged 10+ (website says 6+, but realistically older kids enjoy it more). You can even pay with Tesco Clubcard points!

A short 25-minute drive to Blakeney Point offers amazing seal watching trips suitable for all ages (even well-behaved dogs). We went with Ptarmigan and loved it – calm waters made the trip easy even for those prone to seasickness. National Trust members park free.

National Trust Walks

  • West Runton Circular Walk: 2½ miles, hilly but with stunning sea views and the Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary along the way.
  • Check the National Trust website for walks suitable for your family’s ability.

Day Trip to Wells-next-the-Sea

Around 40 minutes from Sheringham, Wells-next-the-Sea has soft sand and charming beach huts. The walk to the beach takes 30 minutes from the town, so drive to Wells Beach car park, which is right next to the beach. Watch for seals while enjoying the beach!

  • Hostel parking: Plenty of free spaces.
  • Town car parks: Morris Street (close to the beach) and Station Approach (near North Norfolk Heritage Railway) offer good value.

FAQs About YHA Sheringham

Does YHA Sheringham Provide Bedding and Towels? Bedding is provided. Towels are not, but you can hire or bring your own.

Does YHA Sheringham Have Lockers? Dorms have individual lockers. Private rooms do not. Bring a padlock for your locker.

Does YHA Sheringham Have Age Limits? No – youth hostelling is for all ages, and the community is welcoming and friendly.
